Sanghāta to be Recited Again on Vulture's Peak in 2006
On March 14, 2006, the
Sanghata will be recited on the very spot where in India where it was
first uttered by the Buddha: at Vulture's Peak itself, in
Raja-griha. We invite you to join us to contribute your own voice
wherever you are, as a group of pilgrims and the
translator of the Sanghata bring the words of the Buddha
back to the very place from which they were first released on this
earth. March
14, 2006 is the Day of Miracles, and also a
full moon day on which a lunar eclipse will take place, making
this event particularly potent. For more information on this and other

In the Words of the Sanghāta:
Who wishes to see a Buddha,
Sangháta is equivalent to a Buddha.
Wherever the Sangháta is,
always there the Buddha is.-

The Global
Sanghāta Satellite Map
Click
here to go directly to the Global Sanghāta Satellite Map.
But note: This view shows only the 25 most recently reported
activities. To view the next set of 25 Sanghāta sites,
click on 'next' underneath the map (it's barely visible, but it's
there).
In the meantime, we are working on a solution that will allow you to
view all Sanghāta
sites on the same map. (Please bear with us, this
is a fairly new technology application.)
Guide to Navigating the Map
You can click on any of the
pink
markers on the map to see a description of the Sanghāta-related
activity that took place there. You can also click on the items listed
on the right of the page, and this will take you to that location. You
can then zoom in using the navigational tools at the left of the map.
Often, you can get a very detailed
satellite image of the location by zooming in, using the bar
at
the left of the map page. For an example of one site with good
satellite imaging, visit
the Stupa at Deer Park Buddhist center in Madison, where the
first recitation in English
took place in 2002.
If the image is out
of focus, or if the map tells you that it does not have imagery or maps
at that zoom level, you can try switching over to
‘Map’
from ‘Satellite.’ If that does not work,
you’ll have
to zoom out a bit, and check back in a few months (better satellite
imagery comes in fairly often.)
Note that you can drag the map to move around. Also please note
that
Europe must be in the center of the map in order to see tags on both
western and eastern hemispheres.
Because at the moment the map is only capable of displaying 25
markers at
a time. Our map is
therefore organized
into different sorts of activities, such as copying, oral transmissions
(rlung) and individual recitations. To see more, go to the list of
‘tags’ in the lower right hand corner of the page,
and
click on whichever you would like to see. For example, to see only
sites in Asia, click 'asia,' to see where it has been recied in
spanish, click 'spanish' and so on.
To scroll through the entire list of locations
marked, click on ‘list’ (to the upper left
hand side of
the page, under ‘user/sanghata’), and then go to
the bottom
of the list that appears and click ‘next. Then return to the
top
of the list and click on ‘map’ (next to
‘list’). This will show the next set of 25.
From here you can select a location and see the information or map for
that spot only.
